What is Calibration?
Video Transcription
Hello, I’m Jeff Gust, the Chief Corporate Metrologist at Fluke. In this brief video, I’ll share a simple definition of calibration and explain the focus of this webpage.
What is calibration? At its most simple level, calibration is comparing something of unknown value or accuracy like a cooking thermometer with something else of known value or accuracy, like the temperature of boiling water.
Calibration addresses a broad universe and is at the center of our lives, but few people realize it. Nearly all products and services we use are assured by calibration and the types of things that require ongoing calibration range from common products like the gasoline pump that you might use on a daily basis to high-tech test and measurement equipment.
This webpage (see the About Calibration web page) focuses on calibration from the test and measurement perspective. However, if you are looking for calibration information related to consumer goods like phones or cameras, we’ve also provided some helpful links in the next section below.
Thank you for visiting the Fluke page about calibration. We hope you find the information helpful.
